Find a berth on the French and Italian Riviera or Monaco

4 November 2015

It is well known to yacht owners that it is very difficult to secure a berth or mooring to rent on a long term basis, whether it’s for the summer season or for winter storing your boat in the Western Mediterranean. In our region, even though the marinas are very well communicated (most with international airports nearby), and would like to welcome more yachts and they appreciate the business they bring, there simply are not enough berths to satisfy the growing demand.

In fact, we do not advise to purchase a yacht until you’ve secured a suitable berth for her. You should consider subjecting your purchase to finding a suitable berth.

Allied Yachting has been established in Cannes and since 2009 on the Mediterranean coast from Italy to Monaco, France and Spain, with recent partnerships in Turkey and the Middle-East.

The company occupies strategic locations at the prestigious marinas of the coast to welcome and serve its customers and help them secure adequate berths, moorings or hard-standing winter storage.

Thanks to our port relations, we can also manage berths while chartering our yachts, as well as static berth applications during events in different marinas throughout the Riviera and we’re generally granted preferential locations.

There are essentially the following three solutions:

1. “Purchasing” a berth

The most reliable way to be guaranteed a berth is to “buy a berth” – though this is not in fact the accurate term. You cannot buy a berth on the coast as it always belongs to France, Italy or Spain and its Public Maritime Domain. What you can acquire is the right to use a berth for a limited period of time, until the end of the marina’s concession (generally from 10 to 99 years). This “Right to Use” (“amodiation” in French) is usually granted to physical or corporate entities as a share-holder of the marina in question.

Unfortunately, this solution is no longer available in some marinas (like Cannes for example) and may have a tendency to disappear on the rest of the French Riviera. This option does not exist in Monaco, however, it will remain possible in the rest of France, Italy and Spain.

2. Renting a berth

Allied Yachting is able to propose different berths for different periods. In priority, we will help locate easy-access berths, moorings or storage when a yacht is purchased from us or listed for sale or charter with us.

However, and through our YACHT MANAGEMENT program and our port relations, Allied Yachting can also offer its customers, support in applying for preferential berths and mooring for passing ships, seasonal or for the various events in Cannes, Monaco*, St Tropez and the rest of the Rivieras, all under rental for the defined period.

3. Winter storage

We will also help you find moorage (or a berth) afloat as well as yacht maintenance and repair specialists or facilities, we will propose the least expensive solution in our region.
Storing your boat out of water on hard-standing is also a possibility which will limit any possible damage during winter, and ensure your boat is kept at its best.

We can propose both outside and undercover storage for maximum protection from the elements.

Any winterizing of engines & systems, servicing, guardiennage, cleaning or maintenance work can done on site and in preparation for your boat’s re-launch in spring.

We can offer a full service for collection, hauling, storage, winterization and then return of your vessel to its mooring – meaning that there will be nothing for you to worry about!

*Long-term seasonal mooring in Monaco is only available to the Principality’s residents.

N.B.: Our rental berthing program is proposed subject to availability, it cannot be considered as permanent under circumstance, yachts can be removed at any time (boat-shows, events, port’s authority discretion etc…). Besides the marina’s official tariff, agency fees may apply.
